Gallbladder Disease

Gallbladder Disease/Cancer Specialists at Surgical Associates of Southern Texas

How is appendicitis treated?

The necessity for an appendectomy arises when the appendix is inflamed due to an infection. This infection, caused by clogged bacteria and/or stool in the opening of the appendix, causes the small organ to swell up. If it isn’t treated immediately, your appendix could keep swelling up, leading to it eventually bursting, spreading the infection to the rest of the abdomen. You may develop a case of peritonitis or an abscess in the abdomen. They both require immediate, emergency surgery.

What are the risk factors of gallbladder diseases and cancer?

If your bile contains too much cholesterol or bilirubin (a pigment) sometimes little chunks of it harden and form gallstones. These end up blocking the bile ducts and inflaming the gallbladder. This condition, known as cholecystitis, can be acute or chronic. This can eventually lead to the formation of a tumor.

What is gallbladder cancer?

The gallbladder is a small, sac-like organ that lives under your liver. It stores bile, a fluid secreted by the liver which helps digest food. Gallbladder cancer can spread through tissue, the lymph system, and the blood. If the tumors metastasize beyond the gallbladder, then gallbladder disease treatment gets harder.

What are the symptoms of gallbladder cancer?

It is imperative to note that gallbladder diseases do not show prominent symptoms until the later stage. Here are some of the common gallbladder disease symptoms. If you notice more than a couple of these symptoms contact your GP immediately.

  • Upper right abdominal pain
  • Fever and
  • nausea and vomiting
  • abdominal bloating
  • dark urine
  • lumpy abdomen
  • Jaundice

Testimonials

How Clients Review Our Service..

Dr. Shakir saved the life of my wife. She suffered a ruptured colon late on a Saturday night during the peak of the COVID-19. He operated on her late that same night. As I was not allowed into the hospital, I only received phone calls before and after the operation. He talked to me the next day and made it very clear to me that her recovery would be a day at a time concern and that she was very sick. I very much felt that she was in very capable and professional care. A few months later he was able to perform a reversal operation to make her whole again. We are very pleased with the outcome of this set of events and we are forever grateful for his skill as a surgeon and doctor.
